Eriksson aiming to take frontrunning form into British double-header
Two rounds, two podiums – championship rookie Jimmy Eriksson has adapted well to life in the Blancpain GT Series. Currently second in the overall standings, the HTP Motorsport Swede is now hoping to carry his promising early momentum into round three of the season at Brands Hatch (UK).
“It’s been a really good start to my career in GT racing,” says Jimmy Eriksson. “However, I’ve never been to Brands Hatch and so I’ll have the added challenge of that to cope with this weekend. Still, I’m confident that I’ll get up to speed quickly and the layout of the track, with a lot of corners and few straights, should suit our car.”
The Brands Hatch event is part of the intra-championship Sprint Cup category, which means Eriksson will be back in the #86 Mercedes-AMG GT3 this weekend alongside Austria’s Dominik Baumann.
The duo claimed a podium in the Sprint Cup opener at Misano (ITA) last month, and Eriksson later followed that up with another rostrum in the Endurance Cup curtain-raiser at Monza (ITA) two weeks ago, contesting the enduro rounds with Maximilian Buhk (GER) and Franck Perera (FRA) as co-drivers in the #84 HTP Motorsport entry.
Eriksson’s strong early-season form has left him in second place in the overall Blancpain GT Series standings – 18 points adrift of Buhk and Perera who share the lead.
34 cars are entered for this weekend’s Brands Hatch round, which marks the first of two consecutive UK meetings for the Blancpain fraternity with Silverstone set to stage the next Endurance Cup round next week.
