Jimmy ties up with Blancpain GT leaders for Endurance Cup campaign
Jimmy Eriksson will slot in alongside Franck Perera (FRA) and Maximilian Buhk (GER) in HTP Motorsport’s #84 Mercedes-AMG GT3 for the Endurance Cup part of the Blancpain GT Series season, teaming up with the current overall championship leaders.
Making his GT debut at the Misano curtain-raiser three weeks ago, Eriksson enjoyed a highly promising start to life in the booming GT3 category by clinching a podium in tandem with team-mate Dominik Baumann (AUT) – whom Eriksson will continue to drive alongside in the one-hour Sprint Cup rounds of the championship.
For the long-distance Endurance Cup events, however, HTP Motorsport have opted for a shake-up of driver line-ups, with Eriksson joining Perera and Buhk – the winners of the Misano opener and current overall Blancpain GT Series spearheads – in the team’s #84 entry.
Baumann, meanwhile, will take up Endurance Cup duties in the #85 machine, which he will share with Eriksson’s Swedish countryman Edward Sandström and Germany’s Fabian Schiller.
“I’m pleased to be entrusted a drive in the #84 for the Endurance Cup campaign,” says Jimmy Eriksson. “Franck and Maxi are leading the overall standings and to share the car with them means the team believes in me, which is obviously great. I really enjoy working with Dominik in the Sprint Cup, and I’m sure it will be the same with Franck and Maxi in the Endurance events. I’m looking forward to our first race together here at Monza and hopefully we will all stand on the podium here too, just like we did at Misano.”
A full 53 cars are entered for this weekend’s Endurance Cup opener, the 3 Hours of Monza.
